Session 3 Junyan

Requirement: Develop and articulate ideas for describing leading change in an organization of your choice.

I ever worked in the Guangdong museum. I’m luck to experience a special time that the museum moves from old construction to new construction. During the particular time, there are many changes happened in the museum in order to provide clients the better services.

Brief introduction of Guangdong Museum
The new construction has completed construction in 2010 and reopened to the public on May 18, 2010. The new Guangdong Museum is one of the 'Ten Works' of Guangdong Province and one of its three landmark cultural facilities. And Guangdong museum is a comprehensive
museum located in Guangzhou, which collects more than 160.000 exhibits. There are four main exhibitions in museum, including the exhibition of Guangdong history and culture, the exhibition of Guangdong nature resources, and the exhibition of artworks including Duan ink stone, Chaozhou wood carving and ceramics.
Existing Problems
Because the reopen museum is totally different with the old one, thus, the museum has to face many new problems.
1.    The reopen museum is quiet larger than the old one, so the problem is how to use the space sufficiently?
2.    How to balance the quantity of visitors and the visiting environment of museum? The reopen museum places at the central of the city so that more people will visit it. Unlike some public places of entertainment, the museum needs a peaceful atmosphere for visiting.
3.    How to utilize the modern devices? As a new reopen museum, Guangdong museum has to face the problem about the application of new technology. By the help of new technology, museum can support more interesting or professional services to clients. More and more global top-ranking museum have realized the importance of installing the high technology devices.
4.    How to satisfy the diverse needs of visitors? Generally, people come to museum always want to visit the exhibitions in the museum. While, there are still a larger number of visitors who come to museum for other purposes. For example, some may want to identify their collections, and some may want to buy the local souvenirs.
Leading change in Guangdong Museum

 As a culture related place for public use, museum need to improve the situation by making some changes. According to the Fullan’s model, we infer that the leader of museum require considering many facts including moral purpose, understanding change, relationship building, coherence marking, knowledge creation and sharing to guarantee the positive change.
